Walmart, Inc. applied for a permit to fill 800 linear feet of stream for a parking lot for a new store they planned to build. This was a natural stream that included wetlands that flowed into the Broad River.
This case was settled when Walmart backed down from its original plans. They agreed to make a road crossing over the stream as well as leaving many trees on the property. They also agreed to leave a 50 foot wide vegetated buffer along the banks of the stream, therefore avoiding significant impacts to those waters and connected bodies of water.
