Captain Sam's Spit has been a haven for nature lovers for decades.

In 2013, the town of Kiawah reached an agreement with Kiawah Development Partners for a limited development of 50 homes.

Ten years later, a new lawsuit filed by the town and others claims developers must make good on promised environmental protections.

"We have fewer and fewer of these undisturbed natural places where we don't have human habitation," says Amy Armstrong, the executive director and general counsel for the S.C. Environmental Law Project.
