Concerned citizens are speaking out against a proposed natural gas plant to be built in the ACE Basin area of the South Carolina Lowcountry, and environmental groups say public regulators need to do more to hold our energy utilities accountable on environmental impacts and cost concerns for such projects.
Dominion Energy and Santee Cooper have proposed plans to construct a natural gas-powered energy plant to be built in the Canadys area of Colleton County, on the banks of the Edisto River. This new plant would require the construction of a 70-plus mile underground gas pipeline through Hampton and Colleton counties, a project which is already highly contested by local residents and landowners.
