Georgetown Co. nears first local ordinance to protect isolated wetlands from new growth

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WPDE) — Georgetown County is one vote away from becoming the first in our area to enact standalone protections for local streams and wetlands not protected under state and federal law.

The proposed wetland protection ordinance establishes buffers and setbacks that would expand to 50 feet for wetlands adjacent to water bodies and 100 feet if adjacent to state parks and wildlife refuges.
