Plaintiffs in SRS plutonium pit lawsuit demand documents, extension of public comment period

AIKEN — As the deadline approaches for the public to comment about producing plutonium pits at Savannah River Site and Los Alamos National Laboratory, plaintiffs whose lawsuit led to the settlement requiring the comment period are demanding more time for people to submit them along with the release of related documents.

The South Carolina Environmental Law Project says the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration is “withholding important information from American taxpayers during a public comment period for a Pit Production Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement.” The comment period ends next week.
