ST. HELENA ISLAND — In February, U.S. District Judge Richard M. Gergel dismissed a federal lawsuit brought by the owners and would-be developers of the St. Helena Island property known as Pine Island in which Beaufort County was named as the defendant.

Attorney Ellis Lesemann, representing plaintiffs Pine Island Property Holdings LLC and Pine Island GC LLC, filed a 165-page motion on March 20 in response to the dismissal, requesting a hearing on the decision.

Just five days later, Gergel denied the motion and dealt the golf resort project another setback.
