GREENVILLE — A westside scrap metal recycler, mired in a yearslong dispute with neighbors and environmental advocates, was found illegally operating a massive shredder capable of chewing through discarded metal and sending harmful particles into the air.
It's now asking the S.C. Department of Environmental Services for a permit to run the shredders legally, despite renewed opposition from the community.
It’s the latest chapter in a long-running dispute between Adams Scrap Recycling off White Horse Road and the broader westside community, which has claimed the facility — with a history of environmental issues and large fires — has hurt residents’ health.
