Sea turtle nesting season begins; Advocates urge beach cleanup, lights off

(WPDE) — May first kicks off sea turtle nesting season, and South Carolina United Turtle Enthusiasts (S.C.U.T.E.) begs beachgoers to be aware.

"Their biggest hazards are things being left on the beach, beach chairs, volleyball mats, things that that turtles can get entangled in," Terry Graham with S.C.U.T.E said.

Another hazard is lights. So the big push this year is Beachfront Lights Out, and the South Carolina Environmental Law Project is helping to enforce it.
