Wild Side 2018 - Overview
9th Annual Wild Side
On November 3, 2018 we will gather again at Hobcaw Barony, Georgetown, SC, in the heart of the unique estuarine environment of Winyah Bay and where SCELP's journey began over 30 years ago. Created in 2010 to honor the legacy of SCELP's founder, Jimmy Chandler, Wild Side has become a popular community event and a vital part of our continued operation.
Our very special guest and featured speaker is Mary Alice Monroe, NYT Bestselling author of many books celebrating the many wonders of the Lowcountry, including the Beach House series that popularized the year-long dedication of volunteer turtle patrols on our barrier islands.
"My father used to tell me that to make a positive difference in this world I needed to 'light one candle.' I found my way of doing just that through my work as a novelist. Through the power of story, I strive to show readers the delicate beauty of our landscape and the wildlife that depends on it. Through story, the reader comes to care about the species. And when one cares, they take care. I'm honored to connect with the members and supporters of the South Carolina Environmental Law Project, who also use their own skills and passions to educate, preserve and protect our state's natural resources. Our goals are the same—to save and preserve the wild side of South Carolina for generations to come." — Mary Alice Monroe
